Abstract: | The Brazilian new sanitation legal framework, with its universalisation goals, should leverage large investments and could overload some supply chain links. This article reflects the effort of BNDES' Industrial Division to map the productive capacity of the main industrial segments related to these investments. The segments studied include cast iron, concrete and plastic pipes, as well as the supply chains of HDPE (high density polyethylene) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) resins. In addition, chemicals and capital goods used in sanitation were also considered. The study highlights the supply of cast iron pipes and the PVC pipe production chain, in addition to the opportunity to install a new PVC resin plant in Brazil. It also proposes the need to encourage even more transparency in relation to investment plans, enabling a systemic view of infrastructure projects and a more effective exchange of information between supply and demand, aiming at improved investment efficiency of the industry. |
