Investimento em refino e petroquímica: emprego estratégico do petróleo pertencente à União no modelo de partilha

Abstract

The refining and petrochemical industries have singular characteristics that make them dependent on the availability of raw materials under competitive conditions. Exploitation of the pre-salt layer will enable the Union to have a significant amount of oil that it can use for the development of both of them. This article aims to show how several companies in the oil industry have been increasing investments in the petrochemical segment to take advantage of the benefits of market diversification and vertical integration among these sectors. In addition, this paper presents an update of the initial analysis of the sale of the portion of the Union oil, in long-term refinery and petrochemical offer auctions, made during the study The potential of the diversification of the Brazilian chemical industry, financed by BNDES and carried out by Bain & Company and Gas Energy, between 2013 and 2014.The results indicate that the project could bring attractive returns to private investors and be capable of raising Brazilian tax revenues.
