Abstract: In order to expand the Brazilian food production and be able to meet the growing global demand and, at the same time, minimize environmental impacts, it is imperative to seek productivity gains by introducing new technological trends, including the digitization and automation of agricultural production through agriculture 4.0. However, for the benefits of agriculture 4.0 to be fully accomplished, it will be necessary to expand the connectivity infrastructure in rural areas. Low coverage coupled with the lack of knowledge of the costs and benefits that new technologies can bring to rural producers, especially among smaller producers, are facts that limit investments in connectivity. BNDES has operated in several ways to stimulate investments in the expansion of the connectivity infrastructure in rural areas and, thus, to spread the advantages and adoption of agriculture 4.0 in the country.
