Abstract: The environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) incorporate new values that are intended to guide governance in the stock and financial markets. To advance the understanding of these principles, this exploratory article revisits some of the main milestones of social and environmental responsibility of Brazilian companies and financial institutions. The aim is to understand how the ESG agenda has been regulated in Brazil in strategic markets for investors, by examining social and environmental responsibility policies. As a result, possible paths for the development of this agenda are pointed out.
