dc.description.abstractThe success of Embraer gives cause to a certain proud for Brazilians. Nevertheless, the history of that achievement is not very well known. The support given by BNDES and the Brazilian government, added to the company’s technical excelence, has been very important. This paper presents an overview: starting with the beginning of Embraer, it shows how the official support was given since the time it was a state-owned company up to the present and how it grew from 1994 to 2010. It also shows some consequences of the official support to Embraer, which competes in a worldwide market, and it finally lists some of the new challenges that Embraer is currently facing.-
