In terms of industrial productivity, Brazil lags well behind. South Korea presented growth of 86 % between 2001 and 2011, while Brazil grew a meager 4 %. It has not always been like this. In 2009, international expectations were for Brazil to finally take off, but current GDP levels are the same as those in the 1960s. Something needs to be done urgently to bridge this gap and this must necessarily cover the education sector. It is impossible to grow with such a high level of illiteracy: 27%. Education institutions need to revise their syllabuses to meet the growing demands of current society. Everyone needs to take part. Industry is better at sustaining and boosting innovation when there is demand, and it should be co-responsible for the technical qualification of its workers. Regular citizens need to learn to place the collective good above their own interests in day-today activities. Bureaucracy needs to be trimmed as it is killing Brazil, and the impression is that, given the overwhelming feeling of mistrust, everything must be approved and excessively documented. This stems from the presumption that everyone is dishonest until proven otherwise. |
